Unlocked is a part of Locked In, a private Substack community for BIPOC writers and content creators. Locked In offers weekly writing circles and a network of support (and we’re only getting started). If you’re a BIPOC writer or creator on Substack looking for community, request to join Locked In.
Welcome to 🔓 Unlocked
Unlocked is a window into the Locked In community — curated for readers and consumers who want to find more diverse voices on Substack.
For many months, we’ve seen readers from all backgrounds ask Substack to highlight diverse voices on their platform. After launching our BIPOC writing community a couple of months ago and receiving such an outpouring of support, we realized how impactful a community like this can be. So, we’re creating the next step ourselves — a publication that highlights the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color on Substack.
We’re dedicated to showcasing the wide range of our Locked In community — from different cultural backgrounds, to writing niches, to subscriber counts.
Each month, we’ll ask our private Locked In community to share content they’ve published recently that they’re most proud of. One of our members will act as a guest editor, curating the content that most resonates with them to share with you in a monthly roundup here. (You may recognize this format from another popular Substack publication.) We’ll work with guest editors to prioritize fresh, diverse voices for you each month.
We’ve also encouraged our Locked In members to curate their own favorites, on their own publications and platforms. Locked In is made up of 100+ BIPOC Substackers (and counting), and we’ll all work together to uplift more diverse, talented writers and creators on Substack.
As we share our monthly roundup here, you may also hear other updates from the Locked In community, such as what we’re up to and ways that you can support us.
We’re already working on our May 2024 roundup — subscribe so you don’t miss it. We’re excited to unlock some new voices for you.
